Victorian Lucas Herbert has put himself in contention at the 2017 Emirates Australian Open after a near-flawless 65 in the second round. Herbert began the day at 4-under and added six birdies but unfortunately bogeyed the last to turn in a 66.

The 5-under-par round has the Bendigo boy tied for the lead as the afternoon groups, including overnight leader (now co-leader) Cam Davis, get underway.

It was also a promising morning for 2015 champion Matt Jones, a 3-putt on the final hole took the shine off an otherwise stellar round.

After a modest first round, Jordan Spieth was looking forward to a morning tee time but things didn’t quite go to plan for the defending champion. An even par round leaves him at 1-under the card, still in the hunt.

As expected, crowds have flocked to see Jason Day in action this afternoon alongside Geoff Ogilvy and Rod Pampling. The former World No.1 will, no doubt, be hoping to position himself well for the weekend.
