There was six contests to be played for on the final day of the Junior Pacific Cup, with each contest worth one point the USA team had to win all six to take the 2013 title. Extreme heat and a three club wind made the conditions difficult for all competitors however spectators witnessed some unbelievable golf. The final match between Lucas Herbert from Australian and Gordan Neale from the USA saw Lucas six under the card through nine and 3up. Gordan quickly turned that around with an eagle on the 10th hole and crawling back to square through 13. Finally taking the win over Lucas on the 17th.
Overall it was the local experience of the Australian team that proved too strong for the USA team taking out five of the six contests and winning the 2013 title 13 contests to five.
The first match of the Alternate shot Matchplay between Kahn/Binns and Soo/Strauss was tightly fought with the match all square after six hole before the Australian pair of Soo and Strauss went 1 up and held their lead to finish 1up. In the second match between Alcorn/Bobbitt and Herbert/Sluce the Australian Team won convincingly finishing their last four holes 4 under par. In the third match between Moore/Neale and Bannan/Guo the American Team smashed their oponents after being 1 down early they finished 3 up with two holes to play.
The second 9 was much like the first with players competing in a 4BBB format the same groupings won taking the Aussies to a total of 8 points and the Americans on a total of 4 points at the completion of day two.
The Individual matchplay will begin at 9am tomorrow due to the forecast of the 37 degrees.
The 2013 Junior Pacific Cup started today at the Croydon Golf Club at Yering Meadows between the USA and Australia. The Ryder Cup format saw the players competing in a 9 hole 4BBB on the front nine followed by 9 hole Alternate Shot (Foursomes) on the back nine. The course layout consists of some difficult blind tee shots and plenty of water, however the two quality teams were able to carefully strategized their way around the tough track displaying some incredible and creative golf! The Australian team came out on top taking a 4/2 lead after Day 1.
The players return again tomorrow morning for more 4BBB and Alternate Shot matchplay.
