2013 Women’s Mountain Meeting

The final round of Mountain Meeting has concluded at Wentworth Falls and Blackheath Golf Clubs. Players at both courses found it challenging today due to blustery conditions but despite this players were in good spirits and produced excellent scores. Some teams went to great efforts to colour coordinate their outfits as teams and looked fantastic. It was an exciting finish to Mountain Meeting at Blackheath where two teams finished on +17. The ladies of Lynwood, Chris Amery (30), Janine Smith (39) Annette Stannard (37) and Tracey Lindsay-Morfea (29) were the overall winners. The Lynwood ladies have been competing in this competition for sixteen years and were delighted with their win. Dianne Smith (30) of Vincentia GC who teamed up with Susan Cooper (35) Barbara Webster (33) and Dianne Castle (27) of Wakehurst GC. They finished runners up in the team event. Our only international entrant, Liz Finn of Te Puke GC in New Zealand teamed up with Lindy Myers (38) and Jennifer Birrell (36) from Wakehurst GC and Phillipa Waugh (29) from Monsah CC and had a score of +15 for third place. At Wentworth Falls the winning team with +16 were Judy Gailey (30) Pamela Mcdougall (31) Jacqueline Macdougall (36) and Judy Oliver (32) of Wakehurst GC. While the Lynwood team triumphed at Blackheath their club mates finished runners up at Wentworth Falls. Sandra Chitty (45) Debra Northwood (19) Lorraine Gowan (45) and Robyn Keyvar (35) had a score of +15. The Windsor CC team of Dianne Ommundson-Kennedy (25) Vickie Smith (18) Jan Trefoni (23) and Noelene Ponnusamy (30) finished third with a score of +14 on a count back. It has been a very successful Mountain Meeting with 250 competitors playing over four days. Blackheath, Leura, Lithgow and Wentworth Falls Golf Clubs were in great condition and extended a warm welcome to competitors. Day 3 of Mountain Meeting has come to an end. Over two hundred competitors played at Blackheath and Leura Golf Clubs. Some of the pairings in this event have been competing for over twenty years. It was no surprise that several pairings produced excellent scores and it was very close at the top of the leaderboard in both divisions. Division 1, played at Blackheath saw Eustacia Douglas and Jenny Webb of Wakehurst GC win the nett prize with a score of 66.5nett. Just half a shot behind were runners up Lorraine Cribb and Susan Miller of Antill Park GC with a score of 67nett. Helen Bathgate of North Ryde GC teamed up with Lana Debnam of Wakehurst and had a score of 68.5nett for third place. The winner of the 18-hole scratch was Kerrie Davis of Penrith GC and Deborah Nunn of Wakehurst who had a score of 82 off the stick. The second hole of the week was also at Blackheath Golf Club. Cath Bellemore of Nedlands GC enjoyed a hole in one on the thirteenth hole. Cath and five of her club mates travelled all the way from Western Australia to play in this event. Liz Finn of Te Puke GC has also made a long journey coming from New Zealand. Another competitor who has made a significant journey to Mountain Meeting is Debbie Collinge of Noosa Springs in Queensland. At Leura Golf Club it was Nancy Visione and Margot Egner of Lynwood CC who took the winning prize in Division 2 with a teriffic score of 62.5nett. Suzanne Reed, runner up in the singles on day one and two paired up with fellow Monash player Fay Thompson to score 65nett. They finished runners up in the foursomes. Val Harrold, another familiar name to the leaderboard as winner of Division 3 the previous two days teamed up with Margaret Robinson of Wakehurst GC and also had a 65nett finishing third. The winners of the 18-hole scratch were the Wakehurst duo of Dianne Castle and Barbara Webster who had 96 off the stick. Tomorrow is the last day of the 2013 Women’s Mountain Meeting. Day 2 of Women’s Mountain Meeting comprised of glorious weather and enjoyable golf at Leura, Lithgow and Blackheath Golf Clubs. The individual component of the competition has come to an end. Over 180 competitors played over the last two days at Blackheath, Leura, Lithgow and Wentworth Falls Golf Clubs. Many competitors play in this event annually and were delighted that weather conditions were more favourable than last year. The golf was enjoyed by all and some excellent rounds were had at all venues. Division 1 played at Leura GC and Deborah Nunn was the winner of the Yallambee Cup after a score of 74 in round 2 and 80 in round 1 at Blackheath GC. It has been a great week so far for Deborah who was also third in the 18-hole nett on day one and had a hole in one on the seventeenth at Blackheath GC on Monday. Runner up was Cath Bellemore of Nedlands Golf Club with a total score of score of 163. Judith Shade (22) of Kogarah Golf Club was the winner of the 36-hole nett with a score of 132 which included a second round score of 61nett at Leura GC. Division 2 played at Lithgow Golf Club and Susie Leyshon of Wakehurst GC added 92 to her score of 100 for a total score of 192. June Hird of Kareela GC was runner up with a score of 198. Winner of the nett prize was Edna Chan (29) of Wakehurst GC who had nett scores of 71 and 68 for a total of 139. In Division 3 Val Harrold of Wakehurst GC followed up her fantastic score from day one with a score of 44points today to win the Megalong Valley Trophy. Val had a total score of 92points. Suzanne Reed of Monash CC also followed up her score of 43points on Monday with a score of 39points to finish runner up with a total of 82points. Third place went to Jacqueline Macdougall of Wakehurst GC with a score of 78points on a count back from Barbara Webster also from Wakehurst GC. Day 3 of Mountain Meeting sees players pair up for foursomes format with Division 1 playing at Blackheath Golf Club and Division 2 playing at Leura Golf Club. Over two hundred players will compete tomorrow. A fantastic day s golf was played today at the three courses in the Blue Mountains. Conditions were favourable and it was a very successful start to the 2013 Women’s Mountain Meeting. There were several exceptional scores at Blackheath, Wentworth Falls and Leura. The shot of the day was had at Blackheath where Deborah Nunn had a hole in one at the seventeenth. Two players share the lead after round one in Division 1 played at Blackheath GC. Michelle Collyer of Terrigal GC shares the lead with Gillian Virginie of Concord GC with a fantastic score of 64 nett. Deborah Nunn of Wakehurst GC had 74 off the stick for a score of 67 nett. Division one play at Leura Golf Club tomorrow and it promises to be an exciting finish with the winner taking home the Yallambee Cup. Wentworth Falls Country Club hosted Division 2 and all players had an enjoyable day. Edna Chan from Wakehurst leads Division 2 after a score of 71 nett. June Hird and Deborah Gowenlock finished one shot behind the leader after scores of 72 nett. The concluding round for Division 2 is at Lithgow Golf Club. Lithgow is a new venue for Mountain Meeting and it promises to be an exciting finish with several players in contention for the Blue Mountains Salver. At Leura Golf Club Val Harrold of Wakehurst GC was on form and produced a score of 48 points to lead the field in Division 3 by six shots. Players found conditions difficult as the hard ground resulted in tremendous run on the ball. Some players found it easier to run into trouble while others took full advantage with 12 players having 37 points or better. Blackheath Golf Club hosts Division 3 tomorrow where the winner will take home the Megalong Valley trophy.

The 2013 Women&aposs Mountain Meeting kicks off on Monday 14 October. The event is open to female amateurs who hold a current Australian or overseas equivalent handicap. It is held over four days, across a number of courses in the Blue Mountains Region. The format is singles over 36-holes, 18-holes on day one, and 18-holes on day two (played in three divisions), followed by 18-holes foursomes on day three, and best ball teams v par on day four.
