Albinski holds on for thrilling win

Results: Australian Men&aposs Senior Amateur – Final Results Australian Men&aposs Senior Amateur – Team Results Overnight leader and 2008 champion Stefan Albinski (NSW) endured a nerve-wracking final round to win at the Australian Men’sSenior Amateur Championship by one stroke at Royal Canberra Golf Club. Holding a four stroke lead going into the final round, Albinski fought off an outstanding finish from American Kemp Richardson who shot the best round of the week with a 5-under par 67 in perfect scoring conditions on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin. Albinski, who finished at 2-under par for the championship, completed a wire-to-wire victory with a final round 1-under par 71 to see him lift the Kerry Packer Trophy for the second time. It feels fantastic – particularly today with Kemp playing such a great game – to win anything like that is good, Albinski said. I love this golf course it’s my favourite golf course so I always enjoy my golf here which always helps. The Mona Vale Golf Club member said the week had provided a welcome turn in form. It was tremendous I haven t been playing so well lately so it was great to be better. Richardson, a former US and British Senior Amateur champion, finished at 1-under par for the championship in second place. Victorian Chris Tatt finished in third place at 4-over par following his final round 1-under par 71. Canberra local Bill Banks took fourth place after his final round even par 72 moved him to 7-over par. Roy Vandersluis (NSW) slipped to a final round 77 to take fifth place at 8-over par. Victorian Michael Jackson (9 over) finished in sixth place and one stroke ahead of Rod Boyd (ACT) and Ian McPherson (WA) who shared seventh. Royal Canberra Golf Club last hosted the Australian Men’sSenior Amateur Championship 1987 and will host the 2013 Women’s Australian Open. 2010 AGE CATEGORY MEDAL WINNERS Under 60 years: Rod Boyd (ACT) 10-over par (226) 60-64 years: Bill Banks (ACT) 7-over par (223) 65-69 years: Michael Jackson (VIC) 9-over par (225) Over 70 years: Geoff Everett (NSW) 16-over par (232) 2010 INTERSTATE STROKE TEAMS EVENT Winner: Victoria (675) – Allan Bullas, Chris Tatt, Michael Jackson and Ross Percy.
