ALPG – THOMAS WINS MOSS VALE BY THREE

(22 January 2010 – Moss Vale, NSW)

Victoria&aposs Vicky Thomas couldn&apost quite match her feats of Thursday but a round of even par 73 was enough to see her victorious by three shots at the Moss Vale Golf Club Ladies Classic sponsored by Corban Automotive, Wollongong. She defeated Sydney&aposs Joanne Mills by three shots after Mills added a round of 71 to her opening round of 70. In third place were Queenslander&aposs Katherine Hull (74) and Sarah-Jane Smith (65) who had vastly different days.

On a very hot afternoon, Hull got off to the best start getting through the first four holes in 1-under, while both Mills and Thomas all went through in even par. This left Hull just two adrift of Thomas and applying the pressure. Both Thomas and Hull then birdied the short par-5 fifth hole. The gap closed even further when Hull birdied the 9th hole and the lead was just one heading into the back nine. Speaking to Thomas after her round she felt &apossome relief&apos when she saw Hull double-bogey the 10th hole ahead of her. Thomas herself, made bogey but her lead was out to two. The lead was again back to one when Thomas bogeyed the 10th, however, Hull couldn&apost manage to make any further inroads with a further two bogeys on the last six holes. Thomas hung tough with back-to-back birdies on 15 and 16, while played consistent par golf with just one birdie on the back nine.

After her round, Thomas was asked what was the most satisfying part of the victory and she replied, "It&aposs good to beat a strong field. It was also nice to back up my round yesterday, remain solid even though I didn&apost  play as well". She was also asked what the win meant going forward, to which she replied, "It&aposs nice to know you can do it, shoot a good score and back it up. It&aposs also important for my confidence with the big events coming up. If I can do well in the co-sanctioned tournaments and get re-ranked (on the LET), it could definitely change my plans for the year."

While Hull was not that impressed with her day, she said, "It just shows that I&aposm still rusty and have a lot of work to do."

The ALPG Tour moves to Kangaroo Valley where the girls play for $25,000 on Monday after a Pro-Am day with the sponsors on Sunday.
