Aussies Around The World: Weekend Review

By Alistair Hogg Australian Simon Nash has capped a brilliant week by finishing equal fourth in the TCL Classic at Hainan Island, China. The Queenslander shot a final round 68 to finish 16 under the card, six strokes from the lead. Compatriot David Bransdon was one stroke back at 15-under while Peter Fowler, Kane Webber and Adam Blyth were also within range of the leaders. Nash started the tournament superbly with rounds of 66 and 67 before a 71, which was by no means poor, diminished his chances of victory. Fowler was extremely consistent, carding rounds of 69, 68, 68 and 69 to finish on 14-under in a share of ninth place along with England&aposs Ryder Cup hero Lee Westwood. Victorian Ashley Hall was also a solid performer with 12-under while Aussie trio Scott Barr, Brad Kennedy and Scott Strange were a shot back at 11-under the card. Thai Chapchai Nirat won the event on 22-under by three strokes from Argentine Rafael Echenique. The defending champ shot rounds of 75 and 72 to miss the cut in what was a very strong field in Florida. In fact, the 2007 Arnold Palmer Invitational proved a tough event all-round for the Aussie contingent with four missing the cut and none of the other seven managing to break par. Geoff Ogilvy was the best placed Australian with one-over followed by Robert Allenby who was five-over the card. A group of four Aussies including Stuart Appleby, Aaron Baddeley, Peter Lonand and Mark Hensby finished on eight-over but none were close to Fijian Vijay Singh who carded an eight-under to become the first player to win two PGA Tour events this year.
