Aussies make tough start in Seoul

Korea recorded a score of 212 (the best three of four scores count each day) to lead Chinese Taipei by four shots. The Nomura Cup is being held at Namseoul CC near Seoul, The course is demanding, with heavy rough lining many very narrow fairways with very quick greens. Most holes feature dramatic changes in elevation offering a real challenge to the field. Australia are seeking their sixth successive win in this bi-annual event and finished in fifth position today with a score of 227. The best scores for Australia were recorded by Bryden Macpherson (73) and Daniel Beckmann (74). Matt Jager&aposs 80 also counted toward Australia&aposs score as Jordan Sherratt struggled to an 82. With an early tee time tomorrow, the Australian&aposs are concentrating on gaining ground on the leaders. The leading individual score of Round 1 was 70 (2 under par), a score shraed by Kim and Yoon of Korea and C.Y. Hung of Chinese Taipei.
