NSW BOYS' TEAM UPDATE – 10/04/14

by Darryl Watts, NSW Boys' Team Manager

It was a late start due to rollover of players who did not finish on the first day. The weather improved a little, however it was still very wet.

The boys all performed well. The best score was Blake Windred again, who had three under and is currently club house leader together with Victoria's Ryan Ruffels.

The rest as follows:

Daniel Kolar – 70
Grant Booth – 71
Daniel Gale – 71
Harrison Endycott – 72
Kevin Yuan – 72
Joseph Trinder – 72
Isaac Noh – 72
Jason Hong -74
Jay MacKenzie – 75

It is the first time in a while we have all ten make the cut, which is encouraging.

We look forward to better weather tomorrow and some good golf.

DAY 4 – NSW GIRLS' TEAM UPDATE

by Vicki Stride, NSW Girls State Team Manager

The first day of the tournament we experienced light showers all day. The conditions were not great but the girls did well to prepare for the upcoming rainy week and didn't let the poor weather affect their performance.

Celina and Doey shot excellent rounds of three over and are both tying third in the tournament. The popular score was seven over amongst the girls.

Stefanie Hall said, "Before I got to Melbourne I knew the weather would be cold and wet so I prepared myself with wet weather gear, and thankfully the rain did not stop me from performing my best. Besides the golf, the best part of today would have to be roasting marshmallows for the first time."

As an extra activity we roasted marshmallows over an open fire. Chloe was the expert and helped the girls roast their marshmallows to perfection.

Round 1 – NSW BOYS' TEAM UPDATE

<image="6" align="left" />

The morning field have finished and we have an equal leader in Blake Windred -2, the next best being Isaac Noh -1. The rest as follows:

Jason Hong 1 over
Kevin Yuan 2 over
Daniel Kolar 3 over
Harrison Endycott 3 over
Daniel Gale 4 over
Jay McKenzie 4 over
Grant Booth 6 over
Joseph Trinder 9 over

Weather conditions have been terrible – cold with steady rain all morning. It looks as though it will get worse this afternoon, with poorer conditions expected tomorrow.

It would appear the leading scores will be hard to beat.

Keep you posted tomorrow.

DAY 3 NSW GIRLS' TEAM UPDATE

by Vicki Stride, NSW Girls State Team Manager

The team played their official practice round early from 8 am and escaped the cold winds and rain in the afternoon. This practice round allowed us to apply our game plans developed yesterday. We also had time to try a range of shots from a variety of positions to build our confidence.

Amy Chu (pictured) said, "I hit my approach shot shockingly and it ended up plugged in a bunker near the lip. The ball was barely visible! Dennise came to give me some tips and it worked out very nicely."

The team will be playing their first round of the tournament starting from 8:06am on Wednesday, 9th April.

DAY 2 UPDATE

by Vicki Stride, NSW Girls State Team Manager

<image="3" align="left" />

The first practice round at Yering Meadows today allowed us to gain a good feel for the course and start working on our game plans.

Jess Lasky says "the course has a lot of water and we need to play very strategically. The par 5's are of a reachable distance for me and will be risk and reward on the day. I can't wait to start the event!"

We will be up early tomorrow for our official practice round where we will complete our course guides and finalise our game plans.

DAY 1 UPDATE

We arrived safely in Melbourne after a short flight to perfect weather at Healesville, where we will be playing at Croydon Golf Club, Yering Meadows. The team checked out the course, collected their course guides and score cards in preparation for the tournament.

The accommodation is a historic guesthouse with lots of antique furniture. The girls are relaxing, playing board games and watching TV.

We will play a practice round tomorrow mid morning so will have lots of time to go through our course notes and prepare for the upcoming week.
