Breanna Elliot blog: Portrush highlights

British Amateur Championship – by Breanna Elliott We had a funny first few days in Portrush, Northern Ireland. These were just a few of the highlights: Starting the week with Minjee Lee, Cathleen Santoso and team manager Matt Cutler getting held up in Singapore, sitting on the tarmac for 2 and a half hours! Me snatching Ashley Ona&aposs pillow from under her while she was was asleep on the first night. Cathleen eating black pudding and later finding out it&aposs congealed pigs blood (apparently an Irish delicacy!) Emma de Groot battling the bad weather to finish her practice round in freezing conditions. I managed to play 7 holes before I could no longer feel my hands! Driving around in circles looking for breakfast when lovely Syd forgot to open breakfast for us one morning! Not having hot water in the shower (the taps in UK are very confusing!) Amazing lunches put on at the club (highlight being the broccoli soup) The golf was also of high standard playing 36holes stoke with top 64 girls making up the matchplay. Our youngest team member Minjee shot a fantastic 6 under par first round! A wonderful score and overnight leader by 3 shots, priceless experience for Minjee to be leading one of the biggest amateur tournaments in the world! The week was very cold and windy, and generally the morning field had the best conditions. Minjee and I went on to make the matchplay with scores (-6, 6 and Ev, 6) Minjee played great and made it through to the next round, unfortunately getting knocked out in the afternoon by a girl from Scotland (who she went on to beat the next week for some payback!) Portrush is also where US Open champion Graeme McDowell calls home and during the week there were a few lucky girls that got to meet him! Matt was our manager for the week and was kind enough to hook us up with an extra round at Port Stuart Golf Club which was yet again another challenging course! Over all we had a fantastic week playing on some unbelievable courses and getting to know our new team mate Emma de Groot! Thanks for the wonderful week girls and Matt!
