On Saturday 25 April 2015 Australia will recognise with respect the Centenary of Anzac, 100 years after our troops landed at Gallipoli. At least 27 of those men who served at Gallipoli were current or future members of the then fledgling Cottesloe Golf Club, opened five years earlier.
Cottesloe Golf Club’s member volunteers and staff have been hard at work ensuring that the Centenary of Anzac is commemorated in a manner befitting the importance of the occasion.
Our on-course and internal Anzac displays will be set up all week from Tuesday 21st April for members and visitors to the club. Each hole has been named in an Anzac theme with on-course signage at tees, making a round of golf an Anzac journey with a Cottesloe touch. The first tee display sees the transformation of our practice bunker into 'Quinn's Post' – a truly remarkable result by members in tribute to the Gallipoli campaign, as well as a hand crafted ANZAC 100 sign made by member, Derek Ladyman and the planting of over 9,000 handmade poppies created by our members.
In addition to our week long commemorative exhibition, Cottesloe Golf Club is pleased to offer members, friends and family the opportunity to attend a once-off dawn service on Saturday 25th April.
The day’s events include the Anzac 18 putting competition with all proceeds to Legacy, a variety of fully booked dining options, casual dining as well as our annual afternoon golf competition.
Over 100 descendants of the 27 Cottesloe Golf Club members who served at Gallipoli will be attending a special welcome morning tea, hosted by Life Member, Kay Briggs. The families will be addressed by Club President, Murray Williams, and will have the opportunity to view a unique exhibition which recognises their ancestors.
