Daniel Bringolf is the winner of the Federal Amateur Open Championship, finishing the event 10 under par and a comfortable three strokes clear of the field. Bringolf, from The Australian Golf Club in Sydney, went into the final day with a six shot lead, but facing a challenging 36 holes. After opening rounds of 69 and 67 on the first two days, he continued to play consistent golf, playing his third round three under par and with nine holes to go was still leading by five shots. Despite a final round one over par Bringolf (69, 67, 69, 73 278) was never seriously challenged. Brady Watt from Royal Perth finished as runner up (74, 68, 70, 69 281). James McMillan from Royal Melbourne who had shared the lead after the opening round on Friday finished third, one shot further back (67, 75, 72, 68 282). Reigning Japanese junior champion, Kenta Konishi finished fourth to take home the trophy for best overseas player (70, 71, 69, 73 283). Jarrod Freeman from Concord Golf Club provided a final day highlight with an ace on the 16th hole. Accepting the winner s trophy and a voucher for $1,200 Bringolf said he expected the tournament to grow in the future. Federal Golf Club President, Ron Thompson said the Club regarded the Open as a must have event .
