Dooley Wins Third Mid Amateur

Gemma Dooley (NSW GC) has won the 2013 Women’s NSW Mid-Amateur Championship today after rounds of 81 and 77. Dooley won by four strokes to Maitland s Melissa Beavis and Killara s Jan Chrichton. Last year s winner Sharon Thompson finished in fourth position a further four shots adrift. This is Dooley s third victory in the event, having previously won in 2007 and 2009. She was thrilled to receive a new Smoothy Golf Buggy for her win. The first round of play is complete in the Women&aposs NSW Mid Amateur Championship. A field of 16 ladies tee&aposd off this morning at Nelson Bay Golf Club, playing a composite course, utilising 18 of the available 27 holes. Three scores of 81 lead the event (Gemma Dooley, Jan Crichton and Sharon Thompson), a stroke ahead of Melissa Beavis which should ensure an exciting day&aposs play in the last group tomorrow. The 2013 Men’sand Women’s NSW Mid-Amateur Championships are being held at Nelson Bay Golf Club on Sunday 5, Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 May 2013. This will be the first year the men’s and women’s events have been held together. The men’s event had traditionally been a stand-alone event, while the women’s was played in conjunction with the Women’s NSW 72-hole Stroke Play Championship. The Men’sNSW Mid Amateur Championship is stroke play over three rounds of 18-holes. The draw for the first two days of play is random, with a seeded draw for the final round. The Women’s NSW Mid Amateur Championship is stroke play over two rounds of 18-holes (play will be on Sunday 5 and Monday 6 May). The draw for the first day is random, with a seeded draw for the final round. There are a number of prizes awarded for the Championships, including scratch and nett winners.
