Felton claims Vic Open

Kim Felton has fired a final round of 73 to hang on to claim the 2007 Victorian Open at Woodlands Golf Club in Melbourne. The 31-year-old made a hole-in-one during his final round then completed an up-and-down par at the final hole to finish the tournament at eight-under-par, to register a one shot victory from a trio of players. Steve Collins, Marc Leishman and Aron Price all finished tied for second at seven-under-par, with each player having their chance to claim the title during the final day. Felton opened a two shot lead at the short par three 11th, after his well struck nine-iron found the bottom of the hole handing the Western Australian a handy buffer. Heading into the last with just a one-stroke lead, Felton found the trees off the tee and was forced to chip out sideways leaving the overnight leader needing to get up-and-down to take the title. Under pressure, Felton coolly hit a seven-iron to just a metre, before draining his putt to register just his second professional victory. “It wasn&apost something I&aposd to do again,” Felton said when asked about his final hole heroics. “I back myself under the pump when I need to hole a putt and I do a lot of chipping at home. The putts I holed were all pretty straight.” Aaron Black, Andrew Bonhomme, Luke Hickmott and Peter Wilson all finished the tournament at four-under-par in joint fifth position.
