Golf borrows from Footy

Written by Tom Davis – The Geraldton Guardian FOOTBALL, tennis and golf are all thrown together at an exciting new program at Geraldton Golf Club. The MyGolf junior program, sponsored by Iluka Resources, encompasses elements of different sports to aid children with golf development. Football goals provide an aiming point on the driving range, with points given for accurate shots inside the big sticks. Tennis balls used from the tee off, help develop that perfecting swing. Twenty-seven children aged five to 16 took part in the opening session of the weekly program last Friday. Club pro Duane Crabb said MyGolf was created to spur more interest in the sport at grassroots level. He said the basis of the program was all about having a good time. It’s strictly about having fun that s the big emphasis, he said. He said accreditations from bronze through to gold, rewarded the kids for their development in the program.
