Kang increases Tassie buffer

By Alistair Hogg Haeji Kang takes a five stroke lead into the final day of the Australian Junior Girls Amateur after shooting a second round three-under at Ulverstone, Tasmania. The Queenslander maintained her superb form from yesterday and extended her overnight lead by three strokes, leaving her five in front of local hope Ashley Dewhurst and six ahead of West Australian Whitney Hillier. Kang started steadily but soon crept ahead of the pack with solid play which included a run of three consecutive birdies to start the back nine. A bogey on 13 put a dampener on her day, but the Queenslander recovered well and finished with a birdie on 18 to post a round of 70 and send an ominous warning to her competition. Dewhurst started the day two behind Kang and despite a birdie on the opening hole, was unable to eat into the margin with her round of 73. The Tasmanian finished with a pair of bogeys to leave her five behind Kang, setting herself a monumental final round challenge to taste victory at Ulverstone. Whitney Hillier also fired an even par round to remain in outright third ahead of Kiwi Zoe-Beth Brake and Grace Lennon of Victoria. The final round commences at 8:00am Friday (AEDT).
