Keating blog: on the rise at Royal Canberra

By Stacey Keating After Moss Vale Pro-Am I went home to Melbourne for a few days, for some practice and to sneak the Opening Day at the Australian Open in! WOW, got to see Tomic get through in 5 sets, so exciting and the stadium was just buzzing! I really just enjoy a good day out at the tennis! Now back to Royal Canberra for the Canberra Classic. This was my 3rd time back to the event, and second as a professional. I have always enjoyed this course, and felt it suits my game quite well. Big tall pines, narrow fairways and some of the nicest greens around. Also it&aposs one of the most picturesque courses. The first day probably didn t start of how I would dream of.. 2 over par after 5 holes, but i did get things back with 3 more birdies to one bogey, to sign for even par round 1. -3 was leading so I felt it was a good first day and something to build on! Round 2, was much more steady, with me giving myself alot of opportunities out there, and I did hole some great putts to get me in at -3 for the day and to be T7th going into the last day. Karen Lunn was the overnight leader on -9, so I did think I would have to do something pretty special to course the gap, but it is the course you could do it on. Round 3 was much the same really, but I must have holed some more birdie putt than the day before to finish -4 for the day and -7 for the tournament. I pared the 18th hole, a short par 5 which left a little sour taste in my mouth as I would have loved to get one more birdie under my belt. But that left me T3rd place. So I couldn’t be much happier really. Karen Lunn was the runaway winner on a total of -12 with an eagle BOMB on the last! Very happy to see her win! Now to NSW Open….
