Macpherson, Stieger primed for Masters start

British Amateur champion Bryden Macpherson (VIC) and Australian Amateur champion Matt Stieger (NSW) will tee off in the opening round of tomorrow&aposs JBWere Masters at Victoria Golf Club in Melbourne. Macpherson, who is based at the University of Georgia, will be paired with fellow Victorian Steve Jones and Golf Australia Rookie Professional Bronson La&aposcassie in the opening rounds. Stieger will play alongside another past British Amateur champion – Korean Jin Jeong and Queenslander Ryan Haller who finished 9th at the Emirates Australian Open. Both players are included in the recently announced 2012 National Squad. Earlier this year, the then 20-year-old Macpherson defeated Scotland s Michael Stewart 3&2 in the 36-hole final of the Amateur Championship and earned a place in The Open Championship at Royal St George s and an invitation to the 2012 Masters Tournament at Augusta National. Both Macpherson and Stieger will return to the Sandbelt in January with Stieger to defend his Australian Amateur title.
