Germany&aposs Caroline Masson has started the North Texas LPGA Shootout with a seven-under 64 to take a two-shot lead. Masson finished the first round of the LPGA event in Irving, Texas, on top of the leaderboard, ahead of Spain&aposs Carlota Ciganda (five under) and a quintet on four under. In her first season on the LPGA Tour, Masson has only made the cut once when she finished in a tie for 13th at the Kraft Nabisco Championship earlier this month but looked much more comfortable on Thursday as she carded a bogey-free round at the Los Colinas Country Club. The 23-year-old German notched four birdies on the front nine and three on the run home, including on the 18th hole to cap off an impressive opening round. Ciganda finished the opening round on five under after matching Masson&aposs three birdies on the back nine. The 22-year-old Spaniard produced an inconsistent front nine with birdies on the 1st, 5th, 6th and 7th holes and bogeys on the 2nd and 8th but regained her consistency on the run home. Ciganda sits one shot ahead of South Korean pair Mi Jung Hur and Inbee Park, Felicity Johnson of England and the USA&aposs Kristy McPherson and Mo Martin. Sarah Kemp was the pick of the Australians in equal 32nd position on even par.
