Lang Lang Golf Club's Pat Randall recently recorded her third hole-in-one and there's a bit of a story to it…
Randall, the events coordinator at Lang Lang GC, helped organise a Mazda Victorian Four-Ball qualifying event which was played at the club earlier this year.
Well acquainted to the course, Randall had scored one of her previous two hole-in-ones at Lang Lang GC on the par-3 9th hole just 12 months ago. The same hole that was chosen as the designated par-3 this year for the Mazda hole-in-one competition.
As she was a participant in the Mazda Four-Ball qualifying event herself, she received the event gift pack which included a three-pack of Mazda branded golf balls.
Electing not to use the new balls during her round, Randall played through the 18 holes without any significant highlights and unfortunately, no hole-in-one on the 9th.
In the weeks following, Randall broke out the new Mazda balls at an Easter tournament at Tocumwal GC. At the 17th, the Captain's hole, Randall struck the ball true off the tee and watched as it dropped into the hole.
"When asked what ball did you use, my reply was 'my Mazda ball’”, said Randall.
"People would raise their eyebrows and say I haven’t heard of that brand and so I then had to explain!”
"I now have had 3 hole in ones, my first was at Waverley Golf Club."
In hindsight, Randall looked back at her round during the Mazda Four-Ball qualifying event wishing she had opened the ‘lucky' new balls sooner.
"Maybe I should have used the ball on the day we held the event at Lang Lang," she said.
Had she have scored her second ace on the 9th at Lang Lang GC, she would have driven home in a brand new Mazda.
"Sincere thanks to Paul Clough and his Nar Nar Goon Mazda dealership and Golf Victoria for their great support and contribution to this very successful event."
