MyGolf Centre of the Month: November 2015

Long Reef Golf Club, located on the northern beaches of Sydney, is the winner of this month’s MyGolf Centre of the Month award.

With plenty of other activities available for children in the local area, Long Reef found it hard attracting young golfers to the club. But after receiving some encouraging advice from the Jack Newton Junior Golf Foundation, the club became a registered MyGolf Centre about six months ago.

Long Reef ran its first program in term three and was pleased to have eight juniors participate. After the success of that program, the club decided to run a term four program on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and have had a total of 21 juniors participate – a great result for the club!

MyGolf co-ordinator and PGA professional Danny Vera has been very pleased with the MyGolf program and the number of junior golfers it has attracted to Long Reef.

“The general structure of the MyGolf program and the online registration system is easy to access and implement,” Vera said.

“The participant packs are a great add to the program and the kids love them. It looks great when they wear their caps and helps them feel a part of something.”

Danny has set up a number of school holiday programs and term one programs into which participants can register, and will continue running term-based programs throughout 2016.

Long Reef captain Les Browne praised Danny’s work in implementing the MyGolf program at the club, attracting new juniors to the club and making the program a fun and enjoyable experience for juniors.

“Shortly after implementing the MyGolf program, we established a new category of membership, junior cadet, for those juniors who have completed the MyGolf program and are ready to transition into playing members,” Browne said.

“The junior cadetship also fits well with the family membership that we offer at Long Reef.”

The junior cadet membership acts as a great retention strategy for Long Reef, especially for those MyGolfers who have completed the three levels of the MyGolf program and are course ready.  The membership allows them to play in a six-hole competition on Saturday afternoons.

“The members have embraced having the young kids at the club and on the course,” Browne said.

“Many are actually a little jealous of how well they hit the ball!”

Congratulations to Danny and his team at Long Reef Golf Club for implementing a successful MyGolf program.

The MyGolf Team looks forward to seeing your success continue.
