Queensland s Daniel Nisbet has been added to Golf Australia s National Squad at Tier 2 level. The Caboolture Golf Club member is ranked Number 1 in Australia on the Men’sRankings and inside the top 50 on the World Amateur Rankings. In January he finished runner up at the Australian Amateur Championship before winning the Lake Macquarie Amateur at Belmont Golf Club. Nisbet is one of a travelling party of Australia s leading amateurs who leave for Antalya in Turkey on Saturday for preparations in advance of the World Amateur Team Championships from 27 September -10 October. Joining Nisbet in Turkey are National Squad members Nathan Holman (VIC), Cameron Smith (QLD), Jake Higginbottom (NSW), Brett Drewitt (NSW), Breanna Elliott (VIC), Minjee Lee (WA), Su Hyun Oh (VIC) and Ashley Ona (QLD). Golf Australia s High Performance Director Brad James said it was important that players familiarised themselves with the championship venues. We re yet to select final teams for the Eisenhower Trophy or Espirito Santo Trophy but it s important that a squad of players are familiar with the venue and have some experience on the golf courses before playing them in championship conditions, James said. The selection process for the World Amateur Team Championship will be to select a squad of players (no minimum or maximum) who have the best potential to win the WATC on June 1st. The final three person teams will be announced six weeks prior to the team departing. This allows Golf Australia s High Performance Director and the Selection Advisory Panel to evaluate the player s performance after the National Selection events in Australia and the summer tournaments in Europe and America. Once the team is selected, the coaches and managers will also be announced. Coaches and managers considered for selection will be notified on June 1st to allow for pre-planning. Following Turkey, the boys will travel to the Scottish Amateur, St Andrews Links Trophy and The Amateur Championship in Ayrshire, Scotland.
