Yani Tseng became a force in women's golf in her late teens, a major champion by age 19, and reached No. 1 in the world rankings by age 22. Her personality has been described as "bubbly," and she can often be seen on the course with a smile.
Tseng was born in Taiwan and began playing golf by the age of 6. As she approached her teens, Tseng's game was showing such promise that she was sent to live in the United States in 2001, attending the David Leadbetter academy in Florida.
Tseng's first big tournament success was winning the 2003 Callaway Junior Golf Championship. Her first widespread notice came in 2004 when she defeated Michelle Wie, 1-up in 36 holes, to win the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship.
Another big amateur win for Tseng was beating Morgan Pressel in the finals to win the North & South Women's Amateur.
Tseng turned pro in 2007, at age 18, and played tournaments that year on the Ladies Asian Golf Tour and Canadian Women's Tour. At LPGA Q-School late in the year, Tseng earned her LPGA card by finishing sixth.
From her rookie season in 2008, Tseng displayed the traits that would make her great. An aggressive player, she boomed it off the tee and fired at pins.
And Tseng's first LPGA victory happened at the 2008 LPGA Championship, a major, fueling her run to win Rookie of the Year.
Tseng won once again in 2009, then in 2010 won three times – including two majors. She was named LPGA Player of the Year in 2010.
In 2011, Tseng added her fourth major, winning the LPGA Championship for the second time. At age 22, Tseng became the youngest golfer in modern golf history to win four majors. Then she added another, winning the 2011 Women's British Open to become the youngest ever, male or female, with five majors.
In 2012 her dominance continued, winning three more LPGA events in a successful year and maintaining her grip on the World Number 1 spot.
