Rd 2: Smith takes three stroke lead at Victoria

ROUND 2 RESULTS Queensland s Cameron Smith will take a three stroke lead into the third round of the Srixon Australian Men’sStroke Play Championship at Victoria Golf Club. Smith, who was leading by two going into today s round, said he was pleased with how his game held together. It could have got a little bit scrappy today but I held it together with some good up and downs and made some pretty clutch putts which kept me going, Smith said. I thought the conditions were a little bit easier today because the greens weren t as hard but they did slow up in the afternoon so it was hard to judge. Going into the weekend rounds, Smith said he was keen to keep things simple. I ll stick to the game plan and keep doing what I ve been doing and just believe in myself, he said. New Zealand s Ben Campbell is in second place following his second round 3-under par 69 to leave him at 4-under for the championship. Tim Frazer (NSW), Tim Hart (QLD) and Luke Humphries (NSW) are tied in third place at 3-under par. New Zealand s Cameron Jones is in outright sixth following his 7-under par 65 at Victoria Golf Club which move him up to 2-under par. Four players are tied in seventh at 1-under par including England s David Coupland, WA s Ryan Peake and Daniel Bringolf (NSW). The cut was +7. The third round begins on Saturday. The top 32 players following Sunday s final round will advance to the Match Play section of the Srixon Australian Amateur Championship at Victoria Golf Club.
