Brett Rumford is closing in on back-to-back European Tour wins after taking a one-shot lead after Saturday&aposs third round of the Volvo China Open. Rumford moved to 12 under for the tournament with Sunday&aposs final round to come after carding a three-under par 69 at the Tianjin Binhai Lake club. The Perth-born Rumford, 35, took the outright lead after his Finnish playing partner Mikko Ilonen shot a bogey on the 18th hole after finding water with his tee shot. Rumford, who ended a six-year drought on the European Tour with victory at the Ballantine&aposs Championship in Korea last week, missed six greens during Saturday&aposs round, but scrambled par each time. “That was a tough day, a really tiring day, I really started to feel it on the back nine,” Rumford said. “I was fortunate enough to make some good up-and-downs today, but a lot of the areas where I was missing it were seemingly pretty easy to get up and down. I holed some good putts too, but it&aposs just one of those things when you&aposre mentally in it.” Spain&aposs Pablo Larrazabal is third, two shots behind Rumford, while Thailand&aposs Kiradech Aphibarnrat is fourth at nine under.
