Three-peat Murdaca wins SA Junior Masters

Anthony Murdaca – three time winner SA Junior Masters Golf SA Junior Masters Thursday 3rd January Anthony Murdaca (The Grange GC) and Amy Walsh (Emerald Lakes GC) have started the 2013 season in fine style, by taking out the Golf SA Junior Masters at Royal Adelaide Golf Club. Last year Anthony became the first player in the events sixteen year history to win the title twice after winning the tournament in 2010 as a fourteen year old. Now as a three time winner, his name seems befitting alongside past boys winners; Adam Scott, Marc Leisham, David Lutterus, and Jason Day. 36 holes were scheduled for both days of the 72 hole National Junior Ranking Event, however, due to extreme hot weather predicted for both days of the tournament, the event had to be modified. Play was reduced to 18 holes in the morning on Thursday 3 Jan, whilst Match Officials had no choice on Thursday night but to cancel play all together on Friday 4th January, deeming play too extreme and potentially dangerous for a junior event due to the predicted forecast of 44 degrees. Therefore, after his 1-under round of 71 Anthony Murdaca claimed the title for the third time. Kiran Dayawala (Lake Karrinyup – WA) finished second on countback with a round of 74 ahead of Travis Miller (Kooyoga) and Austin Baitista (Bankstown – NSW). The SA Team of Murdaca and Lachlan Booth combined gross 149 tied with Jack McLeod and Austin Bautista (NSW) in the Teams Event. In the Girl&aposs Masters, held for only the third time, Amy Walsh (Emerald Lakes GC – QLD) carded a three-over 75 to finish one stroke ahead of Rebecca Kay (Coolangatta GC – QLD). In third position with a round of 78 and winner of best net was Cassidy Evreniadis (The Grange). For all scores, CLICK HERE to visit the tournament event page.
