12PM UPDATE: Casey soars into Open lead

Victorian David Micheluzzi and veteran Queenslander Rod Pampling have charged to the top of the leaderboard at the Emirates Australian Open on day two.

In beautiful conditions, Micheluzzi, the first-year professional from Melbourne sprinted through his first nine holes of the day, the back nine at The Australian, in five-under par by the time he made a birdie at the par-five 18th.

Added to his opening-round 70 it took the former outstanding amateur to six-under par and in a share of the lead with Pampling, who made a hole-out eagle at the par-four 10th hole and added two other birdies to reach four-under for the day through five holes.

They are tied with one of the overnight leaders, Japan’s Takumi Kanaya, who is yet to hit off today.

The other overnight leader, Chinese Taipei amateur Chun-An Yu, has dropped a shot in his opening six holes today.

American Cameron Tringale is another making a charge, three-under today through eight holes and five-under overall.

The smoke haze that sat over the course yesterday afternoon had all but disappeared this morning, although there is a chance that it will return in the winds come up this afternoon.
