Metropolitan Golf Club’s Jeneath Wong took out the Future Champions Trophy for the Girls’ Averages, while Daniel Gill from Commonwealth Golf Club won the Geoff Ogilvy Trophy for the Boys’ Averages.
Jeneath Wong topped the girls’ averages courtesy of wins at many of the events throughout the year, with a scoring average of 69.60
Daniel topped the Boys’ rankings with a scoring average of 68.27.
Jeneath also took out the Under 16 years girls’ trophy, and Molly Mclean won the Under 14 years trophy.
In the boys’, Nathan Page won the Under 16 years, while Kanthan Nivethan took the honours in the Under 14 years.
For 2019 only local events (i.e. events played in Victoria) will count towards the Victorian Junior Averages. Accordingly, interstate events such as the SA Junior Masters, Jack Newton International, etc, will no longer count towards a player’s Victorian Average.
This is consistent with other ranking systems (e.g. counting events in the Golf Australia Order of Merit only includes events played in Australia; overseas events are not included).
This is all part of the development pathway – e.g. the pinnacle is the WAGR, followed by the GA OOM, followed by State Ranking Systems. It also does not disadvantage players who for various reasons cannot travel interstate.
