Helen Pascoe has added yet another trophy to her cabinet, taking home the Betty Kernot trophy for a second consecutive year at the Victorian Women’s Country Championships.
After not making a birdie all day yesterday, Pascoe made up for it today having three on her way to a 75 and a nine-shot victory.
Rebecca Thomas, Pascoe’s foursomes partner from Monday, was making up ground early in her round after being only two over through her first 13 holes.
Thomas couldn’t maintain her early round form, finishing on 81 for the day and outright second.
Elizabeth Lacey was third on 166 and with Heather Harley not able to compete in the match play, a playoff was needed to determine the fourth qualifier for tomorrow.
Lauren Higgins and Helen Leech were to play the 18th hole as many times as required until a winner was determined.
After three holes couldn’t split the pair, the fourth hole would finally determine the last qualifier.
After a drive into the trees, Higgins quest to continue her week looked in trouble.
Lying just off the green for three, Higgins would hole a 40-foot putt for par as Leech couldn’t get up and down for hers and it would be Higgins who advanced.
The best net in the Championship field went to Marion Venn on a total of 149, two shots clear of Heather Harley.
In the Glenelg Cup, Julie O’Brien would hold on to her overnight lead as she finished on 150 for the two rounds.
Heather Giblett was runner-up to O’Brien, three shots back on 153.
The best overall gross in the Glenelg Cup section went to Lorraine Ryan on a total of 193.
Tomorrow’s match play will begin from 8am on the Captains course with the final to be played at midday.
