Budding stars earn APGC start

Four budding stars are set to make their representative debuts for Australia at the Asia Pacific Junior Championship in Japan next month.

In what has been a breakout year for the pair, Harrison Crowe, of New South Wales, and Abbie Teasdale, of Western Australia, will join forces to pull on their national colours for the first time.

Victorian Keeley Marx and Jack Buchanan, of South Australia, will partner as the second team to play at Hakone Golf Club from 28-30 August.

Golf Australia high performance general manager Brad James said he was excited by the prospect of the fresh-faced teams representing their country for the first time.

“The championship offers a tremendous opportunity for those players who may have had little international playing experience to play in a fun, team-based environment against some of the world’s best,” James said.

“All four athletes have shown great form in the past year, both on and off-course, in proving themselves as worthy choices.”

"An important aspect of athlete development is getting international experience. We have seen athletes such as Grace Kim, Maddison Hinson-Tolchard and Cassie Porter play this event in previous years and have gone on to produce outstanding results."

“I’m certain that this will be a great learning opportunity for our representatives and I look forward to watching them continue to evolve as athletes and people.”

The tournament is played over 54 holes with fourball on day one, followed by foursomes on day two and individual stroke play on the final day.

The combined total of the four rounds determines the team winner of the APGC Junior Championship, while the leading male and female player are also recognised.

Golf WA’s high performance co-ordinator Fritz Arnold will manage the teams, while Sydney-based professional Rachel Bailey will be the coach.
