Cawthorne leads new-look SA into battle

Royal Adelaide’s Billy Cawthorne will captain South Australia into Interstate Series battle at The Grange this week.

He'll have as his experienced lieutenants Liam Georgiadis and Josh Hayes, while youngster Jackson Kalz is also no stranger at this level.

But for the hosts, the rest of the men's team will be on debut.

Riversdale Cup champion Jack Thompson heads four SA debutants also including Jack Buchanan, Frank Vucic and Colin Coleman.

The men’s coach is Jamie Clutterham, PGA professional at the North Adelaide Golf Club and will be managed by David Brand.

Jin-Young Yun, from The Grange, will captain the women’s team who play at Glenelg.

Yun has been in solid form, finishing 12th at both the local Rene Erichsen Salver and The Bowra & O’Dea 72 hole Classic in Western Australia.

Charley Jacobs, 16, from Glenelg, returns while Caitlin Peirce, 15, from Royal Adelaide will make her first senior appearance.

Experienced Glenelg duo Sarah Crocker and Elysia Yap have been selected again with the latter making her sixth appearance for SA.

Caitlin Roberts (The Grange) will, remarkably, return for her seventh series. The 2013 and 2014 captain has been in good form of late, finishing 15th in the Rene Erichsen.

Coaching the women's side is newly appointed SA high performance director Adrian Wickstein, who himself was men’s captain in 2008.

Managing the women's side will be former South Australian ALPG player Tamie Durdin.
