Claney and Day lead the halfway mark at Cranbourne

Play began at Cranbourne Golf Club for Day 1 of the Cranbourne Senior Amateur. Slick greens and hot conditions made scoring difficult as both men and women battled the beautifully presented course.

Gordon Claney (Kingston Heath) leads the Men’s Gross section after day 1 with excellent 71 one under the card. The Australia Senior Champion carded 5 birdies, 2 bogeys and a double for the day. 3 back is Geoff Charnley at 2 over and one behind Charnley is last week Kooringal Senior winner Guy Krall.

Nett Section Greg Cooper (Spring Valley) takes a 3 shot lead after his nett 68. There is a 4 way tie for second with Geoff Smith, Wayne Phillips, Gordon Claney and David Taylor at one under 71.

The women’s scratch stableford sees Lee – anne day (Midlands) leading the way with 17 points 5 points in front of Kay Barcelon with 12 points.

The women’s Stableford Suzanne Ferguson (Rossdale) is going into tomorrow with a one point lead over regular Tina Cowie (Pakenham) shooting 30 points in the Stableford section.
