83 competitors from throughout Victoria & interstate teed it up in this years’ edition of the Commonwealth Senior Amateur, forming the third event of the ‘August Senior Sand Belt' series.
A windy afternoon greeted the considerably larger field, following suit from the last few days’ weather that Melbourne provided, creating a challenge for all who took to the fairways of the par 73 layout, which again was presented in beautiful condition.
In the end it was hot favourite Gordon Claney (Kingston Heath) who has a 100% strike rate for the two weeks so far, wining 3 from 3 events after firing the round of the day 72. Gordon finished 6 shots ahead of Stephen Valentine (Kew) who has also had a recent win at the Tocumwal Senor Amateur.
Handicap honours for the 2016 event went to crowd favourite Alan Evans (Royal Melbourne) who returned a nett 74 from his 5 handicap. Alan narrowly edged out New South Welshman Drew Simonsen (Castle Hill) by a single shot, 75 from his 10 handicap.
The senior group have a rest day tomorrow before returning to Victoria Golf Club Friday to return to a very big two weeks of high quality golf.
