Dubbo’s Lachie Jones has taken out the NSW Open Regional Qualifier at Moree Golf Club, and with it, the first regional qualifying place on offer in November's Championship at Twin Creeks Golf and Country Club.
Jones, who was a member of the NSW team that came within a whisker of taking out the Australian Boys' Teams matches titles at Hartfield GC in Perth Last month, was over the moon with the result.
“It’s cool to know I am the first qualifier for this year,” he grinned. “I can’t wait.”

Jones posted rounds of four under par 68 and a three over 75 to finish at one under for the 36 hole qualifier, a shot in front of Woolgoolga’s Aaron Hart.
The 16-year-old looked like he had the tournament in his keeping after leading by four after the first round; fatigue set in late on day two and he was just glad to get over the line at the finish.
“I was struggling a bit tired at the end,”
Jones said some of the lessons he learnt from Golf NSW National Coach Dean Kinney at the recent Junior Interstate had helped him enormously.
“Dean helped me with a lot of different things on and off the golf course.
“He taught me a few things about course management, how to play the wind.
“Even things like what and how to eat to play better,” Jones smiled.
In the Senior's division, David Wilde and Adrian King have booked their places for the Men’s Senior Open at Thurgoona after finishing with total’s of 163 and 165 respectively.
