An opening-round 66 has given Perth's Ben Ferguson a one-shot lead at the Scottish Boys' Open Stroke Play Championship at Lanark Golf Club.
Perhaps inspired by the efforts of Stenson and Mickelson while attending the final round of The Open at Royal Troon, Ferguson reeled off six birdies on Tuesday in his 4-under par round.
On top of a congested leaderboard, Ferguson, a member at The Vines, holds a one-shot advantage over Scotland's Jamie Stewart and Richard Yu Zhu, who birdied five of his closing eight holes. A further seven golfers are under par and within three shots of the lead.
With Scottish heritage, Ferguson has a history of putting in strong performances in Scotland, finishing as a finalist in 2014 at the St Andrews Boys Open.
The 2nd round will continue today at Lanark with the closing 36 holes to be played on Thursday.
