Fox, Eccles on European cusp

High winds played havoc with the field at the European Tour Q-School today, weighing heavily on the chances of the Australian contenders.

As English pair Robert Coles and Richard McEvoy took the halfway lead of the six-round event at 203, West Australian Daniel Fox (71) joined Victorian Ben Eccles (74) in a share of 28th on 209 with the top 25 and ties earning European Tour status at the end of the week.

Tasmanian Ryan McCarthy’s rollercoaster ride continued with a second 74 split by his superb second-round 64 to fall to 212.

West Australian veteran Brett Rumford continues to struggle, with his rounds of 73-75-75 leaving him well off the pace at 223.

Jordan Zunic withdrew after two rounds to return to play the Emirates Australian Open at Royal Sydney this week.
