Hannah Green has kept the bright West Australian flame burning across North America, sharing second place after the first round of the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship.
Doubtless riding high after WA state team colleagues Min Woo Lee (champion) and Fred Lee (quarter-finalist) shone at the US Junior Boys, Green kept up her end of the bargain with a hard-fought one-under-par 69 to sit just one stroke off the early lead.
Hawaiian Allisen Corpuz led with a fine 68, but Green is part of a 10-woman logjam at one under at the Ken-Wo Golf Club north of Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Golf Australia national squad member Green played near flawless golf after starting on the 10th, but her lone bogey at the par-four 16th cost her a share of the lead.
Next best among a strong contingent of Australian competitors was young Queenslander Yo Eun Eunice Kim, who impressed in shooting an even-par 70, especially after two bogeys in her opening four holes.
Perth’s Hira Naveed and Sydney’s Liz Elmassian are well in contention at two over par, while Queensland Interstate Series heroes Karis Davidson (75), Becky Kay (76) and Gennai Goodwin (78) have work to do after flat first rounds.
