The last round of the Match Play component of the 2016 Sir Dallas Brooks Trophy was completed today, wrapping up an exciting week of golf. As the sun peered over the tops of the trees at the Metropolitan Golf Club early in the morning, it brought with it an eerie sense of calmness ahead of what was about to transpire on the fairways.
It was a battle between two of the youngest players in the original qualifying field, Olivia Kline (Victoria, paired with Geoff Izon, Royal Melbourne), and Taylah Robinson (Southern, paired with her coach Todd Nicholson, Metropolitan). Despite giving the Robinson/Nicholson pairing 3 shots in the match, Kline and Izon continued their run of excellent scoring, rounded out the match on the 16th hole with a final score of 3&2.
After being 2 up through the front 9, Kline and Izon won holes 11, 12 and 13, working their way to be dormy with 5 holes to play, only to have been outplayed on the 14th and 15 holes to bring them back and have their opponents back in reach. A half on the final hole was all that was needed to put the seal on the match.
Golf Victoria would like the extend a very warm thanks to the Metropolitan Golf Club for the manner in which they hosted the events this week.
