Helen Leech has won her second Victorian Women’s Sand Greens Championship title at Bannockburn Golf Club. The 2014 champion from Neangar Park had a dominating 9 shot victory from 2015 champion Helen Pascoe of Buninyong. Leech carded a 5 over par round 74 today for a 36-hole total of 153, while Pascoe won the second round count-back on 164 from Mary-Anne Davis of Murray Downs.
Warm and blustery conditions built up throughout the morning, with gusts of up to 45km/hr presenting a challenge for players as they sped around the course to beat the approaching storms from the west. Volunteer scrapers out on course helped with the pace of play and the round was completed in under 4.5 hours.
One player in particular enjoyed her time at Bannockburn with outstanding scores over the two days. Judi Guest of Midlands carded two round of 86 to win the B-Grade gross title by 12 shots. The 23 marker played exceptional golf, with two rounds of nett 63 winning her the B-Grade nett title by 13 shots.
Other major trophy winners include Roslyn Kerr from Bandiana Army, capturing both C-Grade nett and gross titles, with runners up Glenise Stevens from Inverleigh (nett) and Elizabeth Preston of Warracknabeal (gross). Joy Kennedy of Axedale took home the A-Grade nett trophy with an excellent score of 63 nett today, and Kerry Scales from Midlands was runner-up on a count-back from Helen Leech.
Golf Victoria wishes to thank Bannockburn Golf Club, the committee members and volunteers for the outstanding manner in which they have hosted the Championship. Tomorrow is the club four-ball best ball day before the Men’s Sand Greens Championship begins again at the club on Saturday morning.
