Leishman goes top 5 in KL

Marc Leishman matched his best result of the calendar year on the US tour with a fine closing round 66 at TPC Kuala Lumpur today finishing fifth in the CIMB Classic.

The performance is a boost for Leishman in the build-up to the Emirates Australian Open at Royal Sydney, not to mention the HSBC Champions event in Shanghai next week.

The Victorian finished six shots shy of runaway winner Justin Thomas of the United States, who successfully defended his title after overnight leader Anabarn Lahiri of India imploded with a quadruple bogey nine on the third hole when his tee shot lodged itself in a palm tree.

Leishman, 32, had not logged a top-five result since February.

It was a great day for a bunch of Australians, with Scott Hend (tied-seventh), Aaron Baddeley and Adam Scott (tied-10th) all in the mix.
