Luck gets good Masters oil

Perth’s Curtis Luck is going right to the top as he crams for his first Masters exam.

Speaking on his first video diary entry for, world No.1 amateur Luck said he’d loved preparing among the game’s elite, including renewing a friendship he struck up at the Emirates Australian Open in November.

“I’ve seen a lot of great players out there this morning; had a little chat to Jordan Spieth, a little catch-up,” Luck said of the 2015 Masters champ.

“I’ve managed to get two practice rounds in – one with (world No.3) Jason Day which I’ve learnt a lot from; (2013 champion) Adam (Scott) and I played on Sunday and I learnt a lot around the greens from him: places not to miss it, putts not to leave yourself.

“It was just good to play with him and see how he goes about his business on this golf course being a champion here.

“He’s a really nice guy, so it’s great to chat and just walk up the fairways nice and relaxed with a fellow Aussie.”

Luck plans to stay briefly in Augusta National’s famous Crows Nest that the club makes available to competing amateurs before settling in with family in a nearby rented house.

“It’s great to follow in the footsteps of guys like Tiger (Woods) and Phil (Mickelson) who have played and stayed in the Crows Nest before us,” Luck said.

“I’m extremely excited to get the week under way and really privileged to be here.”
