It was moving day at the Australian Mid-Amateur at Magenta Shores Golf and Country Club today – and nobody moved more than Daniel Nesbitt.
Nesbitt was superb on the majestic New South Wales Central Coast links, finishing in style with an eagle to vault 10 places up the leaderboard to share the lead at four over after the second of three rounds.
Nesbitt carded a fine 71 to join fellow New South Welshman Christopher Campbell and Queensland’s Adam Hawkins at the top of the leaderboard.
Nesbitt, of The Links Shell Cove Golf Club, also carded two birdies, thirteen pars and two bogeys for his one-under-par total.
Campbell, from Port Kembla, and Palm Meadows golfer Hawkins were inseparable for a second straight day carding three-over-par rounds of 75.
James Swanson from the Shelly Beach Golf Club in New South Wales is handy in fourth on five over after a second-round 73.
Royal Canberra's Craig Whitehead and Stephen Carroll, from Massey Park, round out the top five at six over.
Overnight leader and defending champion, Dale Clarke, of New Zealand, struggled in the second round returning a seven-over 79 to drop to equal seventh.
Meanwhile, Olivia Wilson, from the New South Wales Golf Club, moved to the lead of the corresponding women’s event.
Wilson shot a fine 75 to lead her nearest rival, Adele Douglas of Bonville, by six strokes.
Wilson carded four birdies, ten pars, two bogeys, one double-bogey and one triple-bogey for her three-over-par total, having been square with the card with just two to play.
Douglas returned an 82 to go with her first round 83 and sits in outright second place.
Shelly Beach's Cathy Stolz is placed third with Avondale's Sharon Thompson and Royal Fremantle's Candice High fourth and fifth, respectively.
