Barwon Head&aposs John Owen is the man to beat at the NSW Senior Amateur. He&aposs even par for the day through midway through the front nine after five pars, a bogey and a two-putt birdie on the par five 7th.
Overnight leader Mark Pearson bogeyed the first to fall back to second place after Victorian Gordon Claney played an exquisite recovery from a fairway trap on the opening hole to set up a birdie.
Leaders through seven holes:
3 over: John Owen
4 over Mark Pearson, Gordon Claney
5 Over: Michael Barltrop John Davey
6 Over: Steve Puskaric

It was a short-lived lead, however, with Claney making a double bogey on the third and another bogey on the 5th.
Playing in the group in front, South Australian John Davey made a move early, but an ill-timed double bogey on the sixth has hurt his run at the lead.

Set to go down to the wire
The NSW Senior Amateur Championship is set to go down to the wire with the leaders about to hit off in the final round here at Murray Downs Golf and Country Club.
Mark Pearson, the bus driver from Mona Vale on Sydney's Northern Beaches is the one they are all chasing. He holds a one-shot lead from the super consistent Gordon Claney of Kingston Heath, with another Victorian, John Owen, another shot behind.
First-round leader, retired police officer John Davey from South Australia is another shot behind in fourth.
The weather is perfect for golf, with temperatures in the mid 20's and a slight southwesterly blowing to make things interesting. The Murray Downs Layout is in pristine condition and sure to be a challenge.
