Greg O’Brien and Helen Pascoe have claimed the scratch medallist honours at the Warrnambool Senior Amateur.
Morning showers cleared up to a fresh overcast day with scattered sunshine. The weather continues to defy November norm with the temperature barely reaching a maximum of 16 degrees.
Both O’Brien of Commercial Albury and Buninyong’s Pascoe capitalized on their overnight scratch leads to finish on top of the respective men’s and women’s leaderboards. O’Brien carded a 36-hole total of 155 which was 2 shots ahead of runner-up David Robb of Thurgoona.
The nett section was won by Gary House of Sanctuary Lakes with a fine score of nett 148. The 6 marker happily took home top honours as a player may only win one major prize, with Greg Welsh of Colac also pleased to have won the runner-up prize on a count-back from Melton Valley’s Col Gardner.
Pascoe’s total of 53 scratch points secured her an impressive 12 individual scratch tournament wins for the season. Coming in with the best stableford total was local Vicki Johnstone, who carded two consistent rounds of 32 points for 64 points total.
Warrnambool marked the end of the 2016 Victorian Women’s Senior Order of Merit calendar, with presentations to take place on Friday. The next event on the calendar starts tomorrow at Port Fairy Golf Club for the Moyne Senior Classic. This is the first event for the 2017 women’s calendar, and sets up for an exciting race to the finish as the last event on the 2016 men’s senior calendar.
