The Outback Queensland Masters will take place in six destinations across Outback Queensland from June to July 2019. Towns taking part in the tournament are Roma, Charleville, Longreach, Winton, Boulia and Mount Isa.
The tournament will also feature a ‘Million Dollar Hole-in-one Challenge’ as part of the finale event in Mount Isa.
The event is designed as a tourism experience, to attract visitors to Outback Queensland, extend their stay and disperse travel across the region. The route has been intentionally planned to encourage visitors to spend money with local businesses and attractions.
The route also considers the existing Golf Queensland/ Australia championship schedule. The Outback Queensland Masters is targeted at amateur golfers, providing them an opportunity to play with locals in the Outback and connect with Queensland’s outback spirit, while being treated like a pro circuit player.
Golf Australia is partnering with Tourism Events Queensland to bring the Outback Queensland Masters to life.
The tournament will take the form of two 9-hole rounds, played over two consecutive days, including a novelty/ fun hole at each location that connects to a local tourism experience. The event is designed to appeal to amateur and social golfers, as well as corporates. Golfers can qualify for the ‘Million Dollar Hole-in-One Challenge’ by competing and completing in at least two other events in the tournament series.
Something for everyone
The golf experience is paired with great entertainment experiences in each town. Each event has been timed around local town festivals and there will be post golf functions as well. All in all, the Outback Queensland Masters has something for everyone.
Golf Operations and Marketing and Communications are leading this project.
