Paul Boxall crowned MyGolf deliverer of the year for 2018

PGA Professional Paul Boxall is inspiring the next generation of golfers within the MyGolf program.

Newly crowned as 2018’s MyGolf deliverer of the year, and with 28 years of experience, Paul delivers MyGolf both at Edithvale Public Golf Course and to schools within the area.

No matter the skill level, age or ability, all are welcome to join in and learn.

In 2018 Paul travelled the entire state visiting schools across a period of 30 weeks, including special development schools.

The students were then invited to attend the golf programs at Edithvale Public Golf Course, the perfect venue for children to learn on a short 9-hole course.

In March Paul hosted a day of golf for 120 students from special development schools across the state, which was a huge success.

Golf Australia’s inclusion senior manager, Christian Hamilton, is overwhelmed with Paul’s work to date, enabling golf to be delivered in over 15 special schools around Melbourne over the last 12 months.

“The MyGolf program is fantastic, the flexible curriculum that can be delivered indoors as well, allows people of all levels of ability to participate. We have seen some fantastic uptake of special schools wanting to get involved,” Christian said.

“We base our program on fun and keep the flow of the game going, usually with a game of ambrose where the kids pick their own teams,” Paul said.

“One of our greatest students is only six years old. He wakes up in the morning to watch the PGA Tour, and at the end of each round shakes everyone’s hands to congratulate them.”

Paul also incorporates putting and chipping comps, using hoops as targets for the kids.

“The program starts with chipping and slowly builds up to full swing,” Paul said.

“A lot of the kids like to make up games that we incorporate into the lesson for fun.  The parents are a great help on the weekends, normally walking with the kids. They always help with education on the safety of golf as volunteers.”

Congratulations Paul on your efforts in growing the game, you have made golf accessible to many juniors who would otherwise not have had the chance to play.
