Preview Sanderson Cup – The Grange aim for 4 on the trot

The Golf SA Women's A1 Pennant, the ‘Sanderson Cup’ will commence on Sunday 27th May, with Blackwood Golf Club hosting the first round of matches.

The ‘Sanderson Cup’ title, is in honour of Pauline Sanderson, who was a noted player and administrator and a member and pennant player for both Glenelg and Kooyonga Golf Clubs, where she won numerous titles.

The Sanderson Cup is a 6 team Competition, played over a 5 round season (each team plays each other once). In 2018 the top four teams after the minor round will compete in a semi-final, with the winners then competing in a grand final on Sunday 15th July, at The Grange Golf Club.

In the past five seasons, The Grange has won 22 contests, halved two and lost two, making the last five grand finals and winning the past three. A very strong team has once again been assembled with two state team representatives, Yun and Roberts, leading the way, along with junior rep Milly Whinney into the team.

The Grange Team Manager Jan Hinkly believes the team will be a strong contender once again.

“The Grange Golf Club Sanderson Cup team is once again looking very impressive. Team Captain, Wei-Jean Foo, will lead her players into another season hoping to bring home the trophy for the fourth time. We are expecting some great challenges and look forward to a very fair and competitive pennant season.” Hinkly said

Glenelg who were runner up last year, have a crop of youngsters namely Charley Jacobs, Tilly Miels and Shakira Kuys who all represented SA in the girls interstate series in April, which is a match play competition and with another year under their belt, will look to be regular winners this season.

Team Manager Jill Hodge is expecting another strong season in 2018.

We are hoping to go one better than last season with the team nearly the same as last year. We know we will be competitive in all matches due to our depth and have worked hard with our very capable coaching staff during the off-season. We have an experienced squad even though the oldest player is 30 and look forward to the start of the season.” Hodge said
