The Queensland Play 9 Open Event was held at The Brisbane Golf Club on Sunday 28 October with 156 golfers vying to win their chance to Play 9 at the Australian Open in Sydney.
The event was open to any member of a Queensland golf club with a GA handicap with the tournament taking place over the front nine of the Yeerongpilly course.
Players from the Sunshine Coast to the Gold Coast graced the fairways with four Queenslanders winning the chance to represent their state.
The leading male and female from the stableford competition qualified for the Play 9 National Final played during the Australian Open on Saturday 17 November at The Lakes, Sydney, with the remaining two qualifiers (one female, one male) coming from club qualifiers held around the state. From this, the best individual male and female stableford scores from the Play 9 National Final will win the experience of a lifetime to play nine holes at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland just before the world’s best tee it up at the 2019 Open.
Gloria Duce from Maroochy River Golf Club took out the female’s competition with 23 points (hc 34).
Brisbane Golf Club member Ian Burgess won the men’s competition with 22 points (hc 8).
