Over 60 players made their way out to Lilydale for the 2016 Gardiners Run Senior Amateur. Gentle winds and minimal rain were a relief as inclement weather had hit the course in recent days. Bryce Birtwistle (Sandhurst) certainly enjoyed the soft course as he claimed the Senior Amateur title with a solid round of 70 (2 under par).

Bryce, a Sandhurst member, is a regular on the ‘Bachli Tour’ and he mentioned his strength from today’s round. He also commented on how much he liked the greens.

“I was amazed at how good the greens were” Birtwistle mentioned.

Sue Lush (Eastern) claimed the women’s scratch event in a well-represented field. Sue fired a score of 25 scratch stableford points which included an impressive birdie on the 11th.

In the men’s nett, it was Guy Krall who enjoyed some success with a nett round of 69. He edged out three others on a countback.

Tina Cowie (Tambo Valley) won the women’s stableford section with 36 points. The Tambo Valley member outclassed her competitors winning by two points.

It was May 2014 when Chirnside Park Golf relocated its golf course to the Victoria Road address forming the ‘Gardiners Run Golf Course’. With over 2 years’ growth, Gardiners Run is a fantastic golfing facility.

The 2017 Gardiners Run Senior Amateur will change format and dates, with the event to be played over 36 holes from Thursday 23- Friday 24 February 2017.
