The 2019 Brett Ogle an annual teams match play event, rotated through the eight Country Golf Districts was held from Tuesday 9 to Thursday 11 July at Naracoorte Golf Club.
Six Districts fielded teams in this year’s event, with two combined sides also participating making up the eight team competition.
Southern proved too strong winning the Division one trophy and Eyre Peninsula winning Division two.
On day one, 40 players competed in the District Qualifying event with good scoring across the field. Tilly Miels from South East led the way in the girls event with a gross 77 while Mid North’s Justin Woods posted a round of 78.
Southern District set the pace as top qualifier, while South East, Northern and Murraylands rounded out Division 1.
Division 2 included teams from Eyre, Mid North, Yorke Peninsula and Riverland.
Solid golf was played on day two, with Southern defeating Northern 4-1 and South East defeating Murrylands 5-0 in Division one.
In Division two, Eyre defeated a combined team 4-1 and Mid North were too strong for Riverland Combined 4.5-0.5.
On Day three in Division one, Southern claimed their second win to defeat South East 3-2 while Northern defeated Murraylands 3-2.
In Division two, Eyre and Riverland combined had wins.
Overall, Southern were too strong in Division one and Eyre Peninsula in division two claiming the trophies.
SA Regional Development Officer Allan Telford who coordinated the event was full of praise of the host venue.
“Naracoorte Golf Club hosted the event extremely well and put on a fabulous three days for all players and their families”. Telford said.
“All players participated very well in trying conditions and showed great sportsmanship.” Telford added.
