Ben Tatt has produced two clutch birdies in the final two holes to clinch a thrilling victory at the Trimax Victorian Sand Greens Championship played at Avoca GC.
The Belvoir Park member carded a 71 today for a 138 total and lifted the trophy for the second consecutive year after winning his first title at Maldon GC last year.
Coming into the final round, Tatt held a two-shot lead and by the halfway mark today he had extended the lead to three.
However, Beechworth’s Dylan Pool kept chipping away and a birdie on the 16th saw him draw level with Tatt for the first time.
Both players continued to put on a spectacular display, making a pair of birdies on the par-three 17th to setup an exciting finish on the 18th.
Ultimately when it mattered most, Tatt took his game to another level and followed up with another birdie on 18 to secure a one-shot victory from Pool.
Despite falling just short in the overall championship, Pool managed to take out the A division net with a terrific 36-hole total of 133.
The Pool family had three members participate in the event and in B division it was Gary Pool who claimed the 36-hole gross prize with a 157 total.
The B division net prize went to Bannockburn’s Henk Kersten who produced the best net score of the tournament with a 130 total.
In C division, Jon Chandler (Wedderburn) swept the prize table with wins in both the 36-hole gross and net.
All volunteers at Avoca Golf Club are to be commended on presenting their course in immaculate condition for the duration of the championship.
The club members and volunteers spared no effort in ensuring all players were welcomed with open arms.
The support provided from Trimax and all other sponsors is also greatly appreciated, and to all players for their continued involvement.
The championship moves to Loch Sport Golf Club next year and will be played August 29-30.
